I've listened to the CD version only, until I bought this remaster. The CD is clear and vocals stand out in the mix. The vocals are lost in the mix on the vinyl remaster. The CD lacks warmth. The vinyl does warm up, but what can you expect from a digital record.

Primus are the sort of band where a little of their work goes a long way, but on balance I would say that this release has a slight edge over the subsequent Sailing the Seas of Cheese, perhaps because it feels a bit more fresh and wild about the edges. Considered by many to be Primus' most 'fun' album, each track on Sailing The Seas of Cheese, save for 'Fish On', is upbeat and grin-inducing. Album single and standout 'Jerry Was a Racecar Driver' was included in the original Tony Hawk video game for that very reason, and not unjustly.

The vinyl sounds better cranked up than the CD. If you could synchronize the record and the CD, and play them at the same time, you would have a great mix. I wasn't pleased with this record, but I do play it a lot. I guess it's growing on me.

(1 fan) Primus is an American rock band based in San Francisco, California, currently composed of bassist/vocalist Les Claypool, guitarist Larry 'Ler' LaLonde and drummer Jay Lane. Primus originally formed in 1984 with Claypool and guitarist Todd Huth, later joined by Lane, though the latter two departed the band at the end of 1988. Featuring LaLonde and drummer Tim 'Herb' Alexander, Primus recorded their debut, Suck on This in 1989, followed by four studio albums; Frizzle Fry, Sailing the Seas of Cheese, Pork Soda, and Tales from the Punchbowl. Alexander left the band in 1996, replaced by Bryan 'Brain' Mantia, and Primus went on to record the original theme song for the TV show South Park and two more albums, Brown Album and Antipop, before declaring a hiatus in 200.
